Dr. Blaise Bourgeois is Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Division of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at Boston Children's Hospital. Previous positions held by Dr. Bourgeois include Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and Director of the Epilepsy Center and Neurophysiology Laboratory at St. Louis Children's Hospital; head of the Section of Neuropharmacology and Pediatric Epilepsy at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation; and head of the Pediatric Division at the Swiss Epilepsy Center in Zurich, Switzerland. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics; the American Board of Neurology with special qualifications in child neurology, and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology. Dr. Bourgeois is principal investigator of a number of ongoing clinical studies and is the author of numerous original publications, review articles, and chapters on epilepsy and the clinical or experimental pharmacology of antiepileptic drugs. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal Epilepsy Research and an ad hoc reviewer for multiple medical journals.

Dr. Sloan received his Medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1984, completed his residency in Emergency Medicine in 1987 at the University of Illinois Affiliated Hospitals and received his MPH degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics in 1992 from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. He is currently Professor Research Development Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

His neurological research has focused on emergent treatment of seizure and status epilepticus patients as well as the acute treatment of traumatic brain injury patients. Dr. Sloan was also lead investigator for the clinical trials investigating the efficacy of diaspirin cross-linked hemoglobin as a blood substitute in traumatic hemorrhagic shock patients.

Dr. Sloan is the President and Board Chairman of FERNE, the Foundation for the Education and Research of Neurological Emergencies. Through FERNE, he has been involved in providing case-based education in the emergency treatment of patients with acute neurological emergencies, many of which are archived at www.ferne.org. He has also written book chapters on the emergency management of patients with acute seizures and chronic neurological disorders.

His work with the American College of Emergency Physicians includes participation on the Clinical Policies, Research, and Scientific Review Committees, as well as co-chairing the Research Forum. He has served as the ACEP liaison to the AAN for its development of a pediatric seizure clinical policy and the EFA on its revision of its guidelines for adult status epilepticus patient management. He has also chaired the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine's Neurological Emergencies Interest Group and is immediate past-president of the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians.

Barry practiced as a critical care pharmacist in Southern California before earning his Pharm.D. in 1990. After his residency, he completed a one-year research fellowship in clinical pharmacokinetics at the University of Washington-Seattle. Dr. Gidal, joined the U.W.-Madison faculty in 1991. His practice interests are in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients with epilepsy. Dr. Gidal's research interests focus on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and the metabolic effects of anticonvulsant medications. Dr. Gidal is on the editorial boards for Epilepsy Research, Epilepsia, Epilepsy & Behavior, Annals of Pharmacotherapy and Pharmacists Letter.

Andres M. Kanner, MD is a Professor of Neurological Sciences and Psychiatry, Rush Medical College. He has been director of the Laboratory of Electroencephalography and Video-EEG-Telemetry and a senior attending physician in neurology at Rush University Medical Center since 1991, when he joined the staff at the Rush Epilepsy Center. He also holds the positions of associate director of the Section of Epilepsy and clinical Neurophysiology and of the Rush Epilepsy Center. Dr. Kanner was born and raised in Mexico City and received his medical degree (cum laude) from the faculty of medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City. He came to the United States in 1977 and completed a residency in psychiatry at the Long Island Jewish Hillside Medical Center in New Hyde Park, N.Y., and a research fellowship in child psychiatry and psychopharmacology, sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health, at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City. It was during his training in psychiatry that Dr. Kanner became interested in epilepsy and went on to complete a residency in neurology at the Department of Neurology of Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He completed his training with a fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Kanner is triple boarded in neurology, psychiatry and clinical neurophysiology.
