John W. Newcomer, MD

Dr. Newcomer is the Medical Director for the Center for Clinical Studies at Washington University. Dr. Newcomer is a Principal Investigator on research grants funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and also serves as the Chairman of the Drug Utilization Review (Medicaid) Board for the State of Missouri.
Dr. Newcomer has received a number of honors and awards, including a 1999 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), a 2002 Gerald L. Klerman Award for Outstanding Clinical Research from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), and an Independent Scientist Award from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Funded continuously by the NIH for 14 years, Dr. Newcomer also serves as a reviewer for the NIH as well as other funding agencies, including the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Newcomer serves on the editorial board for Neuropsychopharmacology and the Journal of Psychotic Disorders, and he is a reviewer for numerous journals, including the American Journal of Physiology, Archives of General Psychiatry, and the Journal of Neuroscience. He has contributed numerous articles as an author and coauthor to leading scientific journals, including Archives of General Psychiatry, The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, The Journal of Neuroscience, and Neuropsychopharmacology.

John M. Kane, MD is Vice President for Behavioral Health Services of the North Shore - Long Island Jewish Health System and Chairman of Psychiatry at The Zucker Hillside Hospital. He is Professor of Psychiatry, Neurology and Neuroscience and holds the Dr. E. Richard Feinberg Chair in Schizophrenia Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kane received his B.A. from Cornell University and his M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine. He currently directs the NIMH-funded Intervention Research Center for the Study of Schizophrenia at The Zucker Hillside Hospital. He has been a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors for NIMH, and he has served on the council of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He has chaired the NIMH Psychopathology and Psychobiology Review Committee as well as the Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration.
Dr. Kane is a recipient of the Arthur P. Noyes Award in Schizophrenia, the NAPPH Presidential Award for Research, the American Psychiatric Association Foundations' Fund Prize for Research, the Kempf Fund Award for Research Development in Psychobiological Psychiatry, the Lieber Prize for Outstanding Research in Schizophrenia, the Heinz E. Lehmann Research Award from New York State, and the Dean Award from the American College of Psychiatrists.

Michael F. Green, PhD.

Michael Foster Green, PhD. is a Professor-in-Residence in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and is Director of the Treatment Unit of the Department of Veteran Affairs VISN 22 Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC). Dr. Green obtained his B.A. in psychobiology at Oberlin College, his doctorate in neuropsychology at Cornell University, and his postdoctoral training in neuropsychology at UCLA. He is on the editorial boards of Cognitive Neuropsychiatry, Schizophrenia Research, and Schizophrenia Bulletin and has authored over 130 journal articles. He has received numerous grants from NIMH, the Veterans Administration, and private foundations. His research activities have been devoted to understanding the nature and implications of cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia, including neurocognitive indicators of genetic vulnerability to schizophrenia and neural mechanisms of cognitive dysfunction. His laboratory has explored the relationship between cognitive deficits in schizophrenia and activities of daily living, and the neurocognitive effects of antipsychotic and adjunctive medications. He has written two books: Schizophrenia from a Neurocognitive Perspective: Probing the Impenetrable Darkness, published in 1998, and Schizophrenia Revealed: From Neurons to Social Interactions, published in 2001. Dr. Green is currently president of the Society for Research in Psychopathology.
