Roy S. Herbst, MD, PhD, is a professor of medicine and the chief of thoracic medical oncology in the Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He is also a professor of cancer biology in the Department of Cancer Biology and a co-chairman of the Phase I Working Group at M. D. Anderson. Dr. Herbst holds a B.S. and M.S. in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University, an M.S. in clinical translational research from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in molecular cell biology from The Rockefeller University. He received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College and completed fellowship training in medicine, medical oncology, and medical hematology at the Harvard School of Medicine. Dr. Herbst is the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials and has conducted research primarily in the treatment of lung cancer, head and neck cancer, and phase I studies. His work has focused on the clinical development of molecular targeted therapies. He has published widely on the subject. He has authored and co-authored more than 250 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters. Dr. Herbst is the chairman of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Cancer Communication Committee. He serves on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals, including the Clinical Cancer Research and the Clinical Lung Cancer where he is the associate editor. He is the co-principal investigator of the M. D. Anderson Department of Defense Lung Cancer Program and leads the Clinical Core of the NCI funded U54 in angiogenesis research. Dr. Herbst is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Thoracic Oncology Research Award, the ASCO Young Investigator Award, the ASCO Career Development Award, and the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Physician Scientist Program Award.

Mario E. Lacouture is an Assistant Professor in Dermatology at Northwestern University, where he serves as Director of the Cancer Skin Care Program. He did his postdoctoral work at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA and residency at University of Chicago, IL. He is a member of the Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center and Chair of the Skin Toxicity Study Group of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer. His research interests span the disciplines of dermatological disorders in cancer patients, and those that arise as a consequence of chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. He is the Founding Director of the SERIES (Skin and Eye Reactions to Inhibitors of EGFR and kinaseS) Clinic.

Dr. Perez-Soler is currently Gutman Professor of Medicine, Chairman of the Department of Oncology at Montefiore Medical Center, Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology, and Associate Director for Clinical Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York. He received his M.D. Degree from the Universidad Autonoma, Barcelona, Spain in 1977 and completed his fellowship in Medical Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX in 1982. His research interests and accomplishments are in the area of drug delivery of antitumor agents and new therapies for lung cancer, encompassing drug discovery, preclinical studies and early clinical studies. His laboratory has been funded by the NIH since 1989 for the development of new tumor targeted therapies using a variety of drug delivery systems. He was a leading investigator for early Phase II studies of topotecan and erlotinib in small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, respectively, that led to the pivotal studies. He is currently a member of the editorial boards of Cinical Cancer Research and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has authored 170 publications and is an inventor in 16 patents on new antitumor agents and ways to treat drug related toxicities.

Sandra E. Kurtin, RN, MS, AOCN®, ANP is a Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner at the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, Arizona. Her primary areas of expertise include gastointestional and heamatological malignancies and management of patients enrolled in clinical trials.
